The Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all-India test conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as an entrance exam for admission to the Post-graduate and Fellow Programs in management courses of several management institutes all over India including the IIMs.


Exam Detail


While the basic eligibility to appear for CAT EXAM is a Bachelor’s degree in any stream, there are other criteria which a candidate must fulfill.

To apply for the CAT 2016 one has to fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • A graduate degree from a recognized institution
  • Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and secured the at least the below mentioned percentage depending upon the category of the candidate

  • Candidates appearing in the final year of their Bachelor’s Program can also apply and are provisionally admitted on selection
  • IIMs check eligibility at each stage, meeting minimum marks criteria does not guarantee admission into a b-school.

180 minutes or 3 hours

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

Non-Multiple Choice Questions (Non-MCQs)

Marking Scheme

For MCQ type questions:

+3 for each correct answer

-1 for each wrong answer

0 for no attempt

For Non-MCQ type questions:

+3 for each correct answer

No marks or negative marks for wrong or un-attempted questions

Sectional Duration

1 hour for each section
